That means doctors can view the images on a screen right away, instead of waiting for film to develop, as occurs with traditional X-ray machines.
When doctors are using machines that take pictures of our bodies with X-rays, they need to use special equipment like lead aprons to protect themselves from the X-rays. To do that, they use lead shields to block the parts of our bodies that don’t need to be in the image, such as our legs or arms.

Today, most hospitals have digital X-ray machines that use computers to make and store pictures of our insides. Cory recalled that digital X-ray machines produce a much quicker and more precise picture than a traditional X-ray because it can be seen immediately on a screen. This makes it easier for doctors to diagnose their patients more quickly and accurately.
